Our clients' side of the story...

yacht cabin charter yacht cabin charter greece
    August 2018

Thank you for your message which reminded me I didn’t keep my promise of sending you pictures of our fantastic cruising week (you shall find them attached). Regarding our opinion on this week: It was great, it was awesome and we just lack superlatives! Harris was an excellent skipper, very pro in boat management and fun to live with on board. Should we repeat a cruise, we definitely want him as captain (even if we suspect that all your skippers are very good!). Regarding the experience of being on a catamaran with strangers, our instinct and our first impressions were not disappointed. We suspected that we would find profiles a little like us: open, empathic and adventurous. Here again the experience was rich and we extend our cruising holiday by continuing to communicate with Anne (who should soon join us for a weekend at our place) and our New Zealand friends!
In conclusion, big thanks to the entire Archipel team, you’re doing a great job. Chances are we'll be back for an encore, but this time we'll take our kids along!

For my part, I have to admit that it's been a long time since I had such a truly fine holiday!! I will pass on the details, but getting back to the grind in France and all what it encompasses is really tough... I have got just one thing to say: I shall be back! I also now know where I want to spend my retirement: definitely somewhere in the Cyclades!! We were really a great group and Eva is a great character and an excellent skipper, I liked her a lot!

            FAQ

  • How many people will we be on the trip?

  • Our cabin charters cruises are limited to 8 people + the skipper.
  • Is the departure guaranteed, or could it be cancelled if there aren't enough guests?

  • It is very unlikely that there will be no other guests than you as our cabin charters sailing trips are usually full. However should this happen, do not worry, the departure is guaranteed.
  • Where do your sailing trips start?

  • All our sailing trips start in Paros, in the heart of the Cyclades islands. Boarding time is at 11 am.
  • What would be a typical day onboard the yacht ?

  • Your sailing cruise will combine pleasant sailing in the morning with the afternoon visit of a different island. After waking up, if at anchor, you may take a swim or if in harbor have breakfast first and then go for a walk and enjoy the sights under the golden morning light. Once the boat cleared and ready for sail, the anchor will be weighed and course shaped for the next island. After a few hours sailing, if a suitable cove is available, you may stop for a swim and lunch or otherwise keep sailing and have lunch on the move. In the smallest of islands there's always something interesting to see or a nice walk to take. Of course you may decide to lay back and relax on the boat or just stroll to the nearby beach. In each anchorage your captain will be happy to indicate the best taverna to sample genuine Greek food and sample unique fare, typical of every island. After dinner you are free to pick your spot and enjoy the Aegean's wonderful starlit nights.
  • What are the expenses to expect during our cruise?

  • As an indication of expenses, we have calculated a cruising kitty of 250 euros per person per week to settle on boarding day. The kitty will covers breakfast and lunches on board, dinners ashore, beverages, port dues, water, fuel, skipper's meals.
  • How is the provisioning carried out?

  • After meeting the other guests and being briefed by the captain, everyone will write down all his/her breakfast and lunch preferences and a detail will go and shop accordingly at the supermarket in front of the pier.
  • Do we go into marinas at night?

  • Generally yachts anchor out in the evenings, unless they need to refill their fuel or water tanks. Not all of the islands have docks available for yachts; the few harbors are very busy, particularly in July and August, if one needs a slip, one should claim it before 15:00. Thus each yacht carries a tender or dinghy with an outboard motor, sort of the taxi for getting around. If you wish to dock at a port for the day or evening, the dockage fees are not covered by the charter fee and are at the charterer's expense. Many guests ask if they may take or drive the dinghy, however, for most of the yachts insurance coverage prohibits a non-crew member driving the dinghy.
  • Any special item we should bring on a sailing cruise in Greece?

  • Travel light! As far as actual bags are concerned, try not to bring any hard case luggage. soft carry-alls is much easier to stow on yachts. Bring a cap or a hat with a broad rim to shade your face. Flip-flops or sandals are fine ashore and if you like hiking you might want to bring a pair of light hiking shoes. The standard in summer aboard yachts is to be barefoot. We recommend packing a waterproof jacket for the eventuality of sea spray, a sweatshirt in case of a windy evening and a beach towel. Also, don't forget to wear those 2 essentials: sunglasses and smiles!
  • Is the itinerary up to the captain or do we have a say?

  • Numerous routeing options are available when departing from Athens or from Paros island. There are many must-to-see islands such as Mykonos, Sifnos, Amorgos, Delos, Ios etc and many choices of alternative itineraries too! On boarding day, your captain will sit and discuss with you, with the week’s weather forecast in hand, customizing precisely your route, by keeping in mind your preferences but also your comfort while sailing.
  • How long do we sail every day?

  • Paros is conveniently located in the heart of the Cycladic islands which are between 2 and 4 hours sailing hours apart. Our cabin charters offer island hopping, dividing your time between sailing (about 2 to 4 hours), swimming in secluded coves, relaxing and discovering hidden beauties of the Greek islands.
  • What about sea sickness?

  • For those who fear to suffer from motion sickness, we recommend to have meal or a light snack before leaving. It is not advisable to leave on an empty stomach. Motion sickness tablets should be taken one hour before leaving and preferably with food.
  • What is the cost of round trip ferry service from Athens to Paros?

  • A round trip ferry service Athens-Paros will cost you around 65 EUR. The Blue Star is a very reliable ferry, it sails all year round, departures from Piraeus port (Athens) twice a day at 7:30 am and at 5:30 pm. Trip duration: approx. 3 hours and a half. The Highspeed ferry is also good option, it leaves daily from Piraeus port at 07:25, arriving in Paros at 10:30.
Flying to Paros (Aegean Airlines, one way fare: around 90 EUR) is interesting only if you do not wish to visit Athens and prefer to head withour delay for the islands.
  • Should we book our ferry tickets in advance?

  • What we recommend is to book your e-ticket in advance, then with the booking number retrieve the actual ticket from the booth on the dock, near the ferry (across the street from Piraeus subway station). You may also order your ticket to be delivered by courrier services.
